Dr. Brit's Role

Very often, it is “mis” behavior that brings children and adolescents to the attention of adults and professionals; however, I often think that this behavior is "mis"understood.  "Children do well if they can" (Ross Greene), and misbehavior is often the result of a lack of skills, misunderstanding oneself, and misunderstanding the environment. Just as we teach children to read and write, we must also teach them emotional regulation, cognitive flexibility, impulse control, and complex problem-solving.  My role is to help empower children and their families by addressing concerns, developing skills, and guiding personal growth.
